About us and the music

t.gif (878 Byte)he band’s name "NOCTURN" was inspired by the jazz tune "Harlem Nocturn" (Earl Hagen). But we play Southern Rock – with lots of enthusiasm! "Southern Rock – what’s that?" is what we’re sometimes asked. Well, there are a lot of definitions... We see it as a genre of music that was born in the American South in the late 60s and - mostly - in the 70s. Therefore it’s a mixture of different musical influences of that region and time, played with a southern attitude: the core is Rock: driving guitar riffing, screaming leads, pumping bass, honky tonk piano, slamming drums and a roaring singer. Add Blues – the sadness, the dynamics and expression; a bit of Country - the down-to-earth feeling, being on the road, the landscape, the laid-back and relaxed feel; the heat and sweat of Texas Funk; and the jam atmosphere of Jazz. Style characteristics are a whiskey-soiled voice and twin-(or more)melodies by the players.
